The official trailer for the highly anticipated Ghanaian film ‘Ato Kwabena,’ directed by Elorm Condobery, has just been released, setting the stage for its October premiere.
Set in the historic neighbourhood of Labadi, Accra, ‘Ato Kwabena’ offers a gripping narrative that pays homage to the history and resilience of one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Ghana’s capital. Loosely based on true events, the film delves into the harsh realities of life in these communities.
The story follows a young boy whose sister is kidnapped by local criminals, prompting him to embark on a perilous mission to rescue her. With limited resources and little means to defend himself, his journey becomes a treacherous descent into danger.
‘Ato Kwabena’ marks the directorial debut of Elorm Condobery, who happens to be an alumnus of the Los Angeles Film School. The US-based Ghanaian filmmaker returned home to establish his production company, Labadi Entertainment, to tell authentic stories that often go unreported in these domestic areas.
The film’s trailer gives a glimpse of what to expect from the narrative and also the team that worked on it in post-production.
Afrosinek‘s M. Abdul Majeed is credited as the editor of this film with Kojo Sampah of Lightmap Post as the colorist.
In a statement shared earlier, Elorm described the film as a “classic good triumphs over evil story.” He emphasized his connection to Ghana, saying, “We shot the entire film in the very neighbourhood where I grew up, using the native language of the tribe to maintain authenticity. This choice was crucial in conveying the genuine mannerisms and interactions of the community members.”
The film features young actor Emmanuel Nartey as the lead protagonist and Alphonse Menyo as the antagonist, both originally from the neighbourhood where the film is set. The cast also includes Princess Yayra Quaye, Tyronne Dorothy Carboo, Awudu Adamu, Joseph Hergurson, and Richard Frimpong.
Seasoned filmmakers Ama K. Abebrese and Kuukua Eshun also contributed to the project as producer and creative producer, respectively. Their extensive experience and skill in Ghanaian film production were instrumental in bringing ‘Ato Kwabena’ to life.
With its themes of family values, bravery, and survival, ‘Ato Kwabena’ promises to take viewers on a unique cinematic journey. Stay tuned to GhMoviefreak.com for more details on the film’s official release in the coming weeks.
Second on my list of addictions is Movies.. the only thing I could possibly love more is my Dearest Waakye lol. Nothing else does a better job of reminding me that ANYTHING is possible with the right amount of effort. I have great eye for details and flaws in scripts. Shallow scripts bore me.
