Mills Media Announces Release Date for New Animation Series ‘The Guardians – The Chosen Ones’

Mills Media has officially announced the release date for their highly anticipated animation series, ‘The Guardians – The Chosen Ones’. The series which spotlights Ghana’s growing animation industry, is targeting a December release and is poised to set a new standard in local content production, bringing diverse, youth-focused storytelling to the forefront.

The show centres around four friends chosen by the gods to become superheroes tasked with protecting their city from various threats, including crime and climate change, while serving as symbols of hope. With a storyline that resonates on both local and universal levels, ‘The Guardians – The Chosen Ones‘ aims to tackle pressing issues in a way that feels accessible, inspiring and educational, especially for the youth.

Mills Media, already celebrated for the success of their earlier animation ‘Asantewaa‘, released in 2022 which saw sold-out screenings at Silverbird Cinemas. They followed this with the release of another animation film ‘RISE‘, in 2023. The film talks about disability not being an inability and is still enjoying a successful run on the festival circuit, proving that the young studio is quickly establishing itself as a formidable presence in Ghana’s animation scene.

The series features Delove August, Akosua Asieduaa, William Lamptey, and Ama Ampofoa as its lead voice cast, with additional notable stars expected to appear in future episodes. The lead cast is noted for their successes in hit teen shows and over the years have amassed quite a good following that falls well into the intended target audience of the series.

During the media launch event at the British Council in Accra, Mills Media CEO Jesse Sunkwa Mills emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the project. “We want young people to see themselves reflected in these characters, to feel empowered and encouraged, not limited by any perceived incapabilities,” he stated.

He also revealed that “The Guardians – The Chosen Ones” is not just a standalone project but the cornerstone of a franchise. “We have far advanced plans for merchandise sales and even a video game which would be available on both PC and mobile, based on this series,” he said. “People will get to experience and play the video game, for the first time at the premiere’ he added.

The series will premiere on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra. Mills Media has plans to expand screenings to other parts of the country, furthering the reach of Ghanaian animation and the studio’s hope of inspiring a new generation of creatives.
