Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF), one of Africa’s international short-film festivals dedicated to celebrating emerging filmmakers and independent cinema, has officially opened submissions for its 9th edition, inviting filmmakers from Ghana, Africa and around the world to submit their films for consideration. The call for submissions opens on 28 September 2026 and will remain open until 28 February 2027.
Founded in 2019, Accra Indie Filmfest has grown into a platform connecting emerging filmmakers, audiences, industry professionals and creative institutions through short-film screenings, industry conversations, masterclasses, networking opportunities and creative development initiatives.
Following the successful conclusion of its 8th edition in July 2026, which was held under the theme “Resilience in Motion,” the festival is now looking ahead to its 9th edition with a renewed commitment to creating opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work, reach new audiences and build meaningful connections within the global film ecosystem.
Over the years, AiF has received thousands of film submissions from filmmakers across more than 160 countries, while its festival programmes have brought together filmmakers and audiences from across Africa and beyond.
The 2026 edition featured 42 officially selected films alongside three special screenings, with filmmakers from multiple countries represented across the festival programme. The edition also featured the AiF Creative Education Fair, industry conversations, filmmaker networking activities, music and film programming, and the festival’s awards ceremony.
Submission deadline: 28 February 2027
Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films early and ensure that all submission requirements are completed before the deadline.
