A new highlight of the 2024 African Cinema Summit (ACS) is the introduction of the Legacy Awards. These prestigious awards are designed to recognize and celebrate key stakeholders in the African film industry who have made significant contributions to its growth and development. Honorees included filmmakers, producers, distributors, and other influential figures whose achievements have paved the way for the advancement of African cinema.

By acknowledging the hard work and dedication of these individuals, the Legacy Awards aim to inspire the next generation of filmmakers and industry professionals, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and innovation within the African film ecosystem.

The event celebrating individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the African film industry was held at the close of the 3rd day of the African Cinema Summit held at  the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

The awardees of this maiden edition of the African Cinema Summit Legacy Awards include Kwaw Paintsil Ansah who was honoured with the LEGENDARY HONORARY AWARD. Filmmakers Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Yvonne Nelson, Funke Akindele and Leila Djansi were also recognised for their individual contributions to film.

Industry pioneers like Trushna Badhev, Ben Bruce and Moses Babatope were also honoured for their impact on distribution and cinema business development.

Congratulations to all the winners for their dedication and commitment to the growth and sustainability of African cinema. Hopefully, this legacy award will be sustained as great industry stalwarts and achievers are recognized over the years.

 

Second on my list of addictions is Movies.. the only thing I could possibly love more is my Dearest Waakye lol. Nothing else does a better job of reminding me that ANYTHING is possible with the right amount of effort. I have great eye for details and flaws in scripts. Shallow scripts bore me. I am an avid reader. Your everyday Mr Nice guy. Always the last to speak in a room full of smart people. Half Human, half Martian but full MOVIE FREAK.
