Ghana is once again playing host to the continent’s brightest young acting talent as finalists of the Africa Monologue Challenge (AMC) Season 3 gather in Accra for a month-long residency ahead of the competition’s Grand Finale at the National Theatre this September.
Twelve finalists are taking part in this year’s edition, representing Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana, the Republic of the Congo, Benin, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and the African diaspora in the United States. Their arrival marks the start of the Pan-African House programme, a signature feature of the AMC in which finalists live and train together while immersing themselves in Ghanaian culture and Pan-African dialogue.
Season 3 was originally slated to take place in Côte d’Ivoire, but organisers and Ivorian authorities agreed to shift the edition to Ghana as a symbolic gesture ahead of the country’s upcoming African Union chairmanship in 2027, under President John Dramani Mahama. The move allows Season 2’s Ivorian winner to hand the torch to the next champion on Ghanaian soil, reinforcing the spirit of continental solidarity at the heart of the competition.
During their stay, the finalists will take part in workshops on Pan-Africanism, masterclasses run in partnership with the Casting Society of America and the International Casting Directors Association, and the Africa Image Conference hosted by the African Chamber of Content Producers. Cultural heritage tours to Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum are also planned, alongside engagements with entrepreneurs, traditional leaders, and diplomats. The group will collaborate on a short film celebrating African unity, expected to be entered into international festivals.
A new trade dimension has also been added to this year’s programme through a partnership with Bombo Investments, which will introduce finalists to intra-African trade concepts and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocols as part of their residency.
Speaking ahead of the finalists’ arrival, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie welcomed the Pan-African House concept, describing it as an opportunity for Africans to tell their own stories while positioning Ghana as a destination for cultural tourism. The Diaspora Affairs Office of the Presidency, the National Film Authority, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and the Africa Prosperity Network, among other partners, are supporting the initiative.
Now in its third season, the Africa Monologue Challenge, founded by MK Casting in partnership with the African Chamber of Content Producers, has grown into one of the continent’s leading platforms for discovering acting talent. Ghana hosted the inaugural edition in 2023, which Uganda’s Rachael Nduhukire won. Season 2 travelled to Uganda, with an Ivorian finalist claiming the crown.
The Season 3 Grand Finale in September will not only crown this year’s winner but also determine which country will host Season 4, continuing the competition’s rotating format across the continent.
