Ghana’s 2024 Cinema Experience: A Year in Review

Published

on

Ghanaian moviegoers are ecstatic about what appears to be a resurgence in Ghanaian cinema. The local film industry seems to be settling in after years of longing for more consistent big-screen releases. Six Ghanaian films were released in theatres during the first half of 2023, which is a good number in a competitive market. However, in 2024, that number has increased to a remarkable ten films in the same time frame.

This increase is more than simply a statistic; it’s an indication that the creative sector is finding its rhythm and target market again. There is more to Ghanaian filmmaking than nostalgia craving, as demonstrated by their genre-defying experiments, hilarious comedies, unending drama and compelling tragic stories told on the silver screen in 2024.
This list specifically captures movies that had showings in traditional cinemas. There were many other movies and extended series shown at various private venues, YouTube and straight to television releases, however, this list focuses solely on the movies that premiered or were shown in a traditional cinema. Now, let us go through the 26 Ghanaian films that dazzled the silver screens in 2024.
