TeamAccra, Ghana – After the resounding success of its inaugural edition, Berlinale Spotlight: Accra is back for its second round from September 3rd to 7th, 2025. All screenings will be held at the Goethe-Institut in Cantonments, Accra, beginning at 6:30 pm daily in the courtyard.
Presented by The Falcon, a future cinema and cultural space in Berekuso, Greater Accra, this year’s Spotlight will showcase nine of the thirteen African films that premiered at Berlinale 2025. Audiences in Ghana will experience the incredible range and diversity of independent filmmaking from Africa and its Diaspora – right at home.
The Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival – is one of the world’s leading film festivals, renowned for showcasing bold and diverse cinema from across the globe. Each February, it brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences to celebrate artistic excellence and to engage with urgent social and political issues through film. With Berlinale Spotlight: Accra, this prestigious platform extends its reach to Ghana, creating space for African and Diaspora stories to be seen, discussed, and celebrated on their own ground.
Some of the films are bold feature debuts by Berlinale Talents alumni, a program dedicated to nurturing promising voices in global cinema. This aligns with The Falcon’s vision of building a dedicated cinema space to support and amplify independent African filmmaking, while serving as a hub for creative exchange.
The festival will also feature Q&A sessions with three filmmakers, Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese from Lesotho, Ibrahim Snoopy from Sudan and Joy Gharoro-Akpotojor from Nigeria offering audiences in Ghana a rare opportunity to engage directly with some of today’s most inspiring voices in African cinema.
As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the cooperation treaty between Ghana and Germany, GIZ will host two panel discussions on the topics of migration and labour mobility and just and responsible mining —addressing pressing global issues without reducing them to despair.
The Berlinale Spotlight is made possible in partnership with the Goethe-Institut, GIZ, German Embassy, Berlinale and the Africa Film Festival Cologne. We are immensely grateful.
“We are proud to bring these groundbreaking films home to Ghana, creating a space where stories from the continent and its Diaspora are celebrated, debated, and experienced collectively.” – Jacqueline Nsiah (The Falcon Ghana, Berlinale Selection Committee)
