“Sins of a Father” – Debut short film by Nuekellar Hardy to Make World Premiere at Essence Film Festival.

The stunning new short film SINS OF A FATHER, written/directed by  Nuekellar Hardy, is gearing up to make its World Premiere at the esteemed Essence Film Festival. The film is scheduled to show on Friday, July 5th, at 12:30 PM CT at the New Orleans Convention Center on the 2nd floor at the Cultural Connection Center.

Nuekellar Hardy is a Directors Guild of America (DGA) award nominee who is known for his work on “West Side Story,” “Women of the Movement,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.” 

As Hardy‘s directorial debut SINS OF A FATHER delves into the poignant theme of generational trauma, exploring the complex relationship between a father and son.

Amidst echoes of his past, Bryan (the lead character in the film) embarks on a heartfelt quest to rewrite his future, confronting his father to break the chains of generational trauma and carve out his legacy of love and growth.

“What would happen if a father and son sat down to candidly discuss past traumas in their lives and ways to heal and move forward? That’s exactly what I asked myself when I sat down to write “Sins of a Father,” Nuek Hardy shared in a statement.

The short film stars the likes of Tongayi Chirisa known for his roles in NBC‘s “Crusoe“, “The Jim Gaffigan Show” and “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts“. The film also features Jimmy Jean-Louis who has received numerous awards and critical acclaim for his performances in “Toussaint Louverture” and “Desrances.” As well as accomplished stage and screen actor, Chris Butler who is notable for his roles in “The Good Wife,” “King & Maxwell” and “True Blood.”

“What would I say if I had the chance to speak to my dad about my childhood? I explored my feelings about this talk but before I was able to come up with the words he passed. So what we have here is my telling of a story that I wish I could have experienced and an offering to others to have the difficult conversations before it’s too late.” Hardy added in his statement.

The film has Łukasz Dziedzic at the helm of its cinematography and is produced by  Nuekellar Hardy, Esi Yamoah-Hardy and Jordan Sims.

After making its world debut at the Essence Film Festival, “Sins of a Father” will have its LA premiere at the 2024 LA Shorts International Film Festival on Thursday, July 25th, 7:45 PM PDT, at Regal LA Live.
